President's Message

Welcome to the website of the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners, Inc. (ASQDE). On behalf of the Society, I invite you to tour our website and get an idea of what the ASQDE is all about.

You can learn about the history of the Society, our annual meetings, how to become a member, and get contact information for examiners in private practice.

The Society traces its origin to 1913 when our founder, Albert S. Osborn, began hosting annual meetings of questioned document examiners at his home in Montclair, New Jersey.

In 1942, Mr. Osborn and 14 other prominent questioned document examiners formally organized the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners.

Then, as it is now, the primary aim of the Society is to foster research and education in the field of forensic document examination.

After undertaking a formal training program of at least two years, applicants for membership of the Society undergo a rigorous testing program or complete a significant research project to qualify for Regular Membership.
Our members, who are in both government service and private practice, are located throughout the United States, Canada (Regular Members), and internationally (Corresponding Members).

Every year our members and invited guests meet for the Society's annual general meeting.  At the annual meeting, our attendees present research papers and participate in educational workshops.  To maintain membership, each member must regularly present a research paper or make other significant contributions to the annual meeting.

A number of the papers presented at our meetings are published in the Society's peer-reviewed journal.   Review the abstracts and subscription information for the Journal.

I encourage all qualified forensic document examiners and trainees to consider membership in the Society, which is the oldest and one of the most respected organizations in the world for the field of forensic document examination.

Please feel free to contact me for additional information about the Society and its activities.

Thank you for visiting.
