Marvin H. "Mickey" Dawson, Jr.

Mickey Dawson passed away on April 21, 2021. He was 82 years old. Mickey was a Life Member of the ASQDE.
Mr. Dawson was born in 1938 in Little Washington, North Carolina. He received Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of South Carolina.
Before training as a forensic document examiner, he worked in television news in North Carolina and South Carolina and also at a newspaper.
Mickey completed a two-year forensic document examination training program with James Kelly at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
He worked for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and established their document laboratory. Later, he worked for the Department of Social Services (DSS).
Mickey started a private practice while at DSS, which he continued after his retirement from government service. He testified as an expert in forensic document examination on more than 500 occasions.
In addition to being a Life Member of the ASQDE, Mickey was also a member of the Questioned Document Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the Southeastern Association of Forensic Documents. He was certified by the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners.
