Art Anthony passed away on July 6, 2021. He was 72 years old. Art was a Life Member of the ASQDE.
Mr. Anthony was born in 1948 in Brooklyn, NY. In 1972, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Central Missouri State University.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1972 until 1974 as a member of the Military Police Corps.
In 1974, he started working in the Federal Bureau of Investigation computer and laboratory divisions. During this time, he working as a physical sciences technician in the document section.
In 1978, after two and a half years in the FBI document section, he was hired by the Illinois Department of Law Enforcement to work in the the state forensic laboratory where he completed his training as a forensic document examiner.
In 1981, he was employed as a forensic document examiner in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Division of Forensic Sciences.
He eventually would become the Chief Forensic Document Examiner and the Manager of the Questioned Documents and Forensic Imaging Section. He retired from the GBI in 2009. During his tenure with the GBI, he began a private practice, which he maintained until his passing. Art had over 40 years in forensic work and had testified as an expert in forensic document examination on more than 350 occasions.
Art was active in a number of professional organizations. In addition to being a Life Member of the ASQDE, he was a member American Academy of Forensic Sciences and past chair of the AAFS Document Section. In 1984, he was certified by the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners. He was a Charter Member of the Southeastern Association of Forensic Document Examiners and served several years as the membership chair. He was also a member of the International Association for Identification.
He enjoyed conducting research and wrote numerous papers for professional conferences. His work was published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences on several occasions. He was also published in the Journal of Forensic Identification and in the FBI's Forensic Science Communications.
