Research Article Example
TITLE PAGE -- Identifies the contents; the author(s); author affiliation Article Title: Provides information to the reader and should begin with a word or term representing the most important aspect of the article. Do not use hyphenated terms; and avoid abbreviations. Semicolons and dashes should be avoided if possible. Author Statement (Byline): This helps ensure that the persons credited as authors can take public responsibility for the report by designing the research, and carrying it out, and writing of the results, thus stating the authenticity and validity of their articles. The name and address of the author(s). Author Affiliation and Site of Research: Location where the research occurred. Abstract: This is a single informative paragraph briefly stating the test and major elements of the methods, findings, and conclusions Bibliographic Reference: This is placed at the end of the Abstract and indicates the bibliographic reference for reference in articles. (Text on the Title Page - The text begins after the Abstract and Bibliographic Reference.) THE TEXT -- The Sections of a research article should use the following headings and purposes: Introduction: States the question to be examined or the hypothesis. Methods and Materials: Describes the design of the research and methods or instruments used and procedures used. States how the findings were analyzed. Text Subheadings: Indicate the structural elements of the article (for example "Methods"), or a sub level which further defines the section. (Two levels within a section is generally sufficient). Results: Findings supported by tables and figures as described in the text. Discussion: Summary of the findings and conclusions. Other analysis or alternative views. The outcome of the study and areas for future study. Reference Material: References Papers, Articles, Documents used to describe the elements of the argument or findings as well as sources describing the methods and materials used. Identify the references listed at the end of the article. For example, "Research conducted and projects implemented 2-5 indicate approval for the new experiment." Thus, the name of the author and title of work appear in the bibliography. For example, Author(s). Article title. Journal title year month; volume number (issue number); inclusive pages. (Other specific formats for citing the work of an author(s) are described in the Style Manual.) |
Articles submitted must be double-spaced, including title page, abstract, text, acknowledgments, references, tables and legends. A one-inch margin is required. The pages must be consecutively numbered and in the upper or lower right hand corner of each page. The tables must accurately describe and be accompanied by a title; and illustrations must have legends. The illustrations must be unmounted glossy prints, approximately 5 x 7 inches and not larger than 8 x 10 inches. Once approved for publication, the author must submit the finished article on disk, and a printout of the article on the disk. Other requirements for the disk version include: the name of the file clearly labeled; include only the final version of the article on the disk; on the outside of the disk state the hardware and software used.
Three copies of each article and accompanying illustration(s) must be submitted along with a cover letter. The cover letter must indicate permission to reproduce the article in the Journal Of The American Society of Questioned Document Examiners. A form will be sent to the author when the article is accepted for publication, and must be returned prior to final acceptance for publication. A computer diskette containing the final approved article must be submitted in Word or Word Perfect format. ASQDE Policy on Confidentiality (adapted from the ICMJE Statement on Confidentiality) Manuscripts are reviewed with respect to the authors' confidentiality, which is respected by the Editor, provided there are not allegations of fraud or dishonesty. It is the policy that the articles submitted are privileged communications and are the private property of the authors. Reviewers are prohibited from sharing the manuscript with others and making copies for their use. The Editor will not retain copies of articles not accepted for publication. The reviewers names are confidential. Reviewers' comments may be used by the Editorial Board, with the selection of articles ultimately approved by the Editor. ASQDE Policy on Conflicts of Interest (adapted from the ICMJE Statement on Conflict of Interest) Any conflict of interest known by the author must be disclosed in writing. Likewise, reviewers are required to disclose to the Editor any conflicts arising from the review of an article. The Editor has the final and binding decision concerning articles published. Copyright statement required for submissionThe author or joint authors are required to submit a statement acknowledging the following:
Certification of authorship assures that the individual author or joint authors submit true and original research, containing correct references cited, indicating copyrighted works properly attributed and stating that the approval for publication for the research involving an individual or individuals has been obtained. The author or joint authors are responsible for any Copyright submittal forms directly to the Library of Congress, along with certification of copyright to the Editor of the Journal of the ASQDE. |
